Akebono develops and manufactures drum brakes to meet a variety of vehicle design specifications. Every drum brake we make is tested for dynamic effectiveness, strength, corrosion resistance and parking characteristics. In addition to proven mechanical reliability, our industry-leading drum brakes feature advanced, high quality friction materials that produce ultra-low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics.
Leading-Trailing Drum Brakes
Drum-in-Hat Drum Brake
We supply leading-trailing drum brakes, a two-leading-shoe brake for medium-duty trucks and two types of Duo Servo brakes. We also offer a service/parking brake combination and a Drum-in-Hat parking brake.
Our leading-trailing brakes are available in drum diameters of 165 - 295 mm and feature an incremental-type auto adjuster with a forward or cross-pull cable actuation design. The wheel cylinders may be lightweight aluminum or cast iron.
Akebono’s Drum-in-Hat designs suit live axle and independent rear suspensions, and drum diameters of 168 - 210 mm. Our Drum-in-Hat products are compatible with either forward or cross-pull cable designs.
The incremental type automatic adjuster we supply maintains tighter clearance control and is less prone to over-adjustment than a 1-shot. During service brake applications, the adjuster operates on the apply stroke.
